Silo is a friendly ‘one man studio’ based in Worcestershire, in central England. It was founded and is run by Andy Barnes, whose portfolio website FactoryFour has won many awards and been recognised in several publications worldwide including the Web designer's idea book.

So, who are you?

I have been working in the industry for approximately 7 years at various web and graphic design studios. Silo is a fresh venture I have setup to take all the experience I have learnt whilst working for ‘the man’, build upon it, and deliver a friendly yet professional approach to doing business.

What do you offer?

I offer a comprehensive range of services covering all aspects of the web design and development process - from the initial design and conception, planning, clean front-end code, all the way to the nitty-gritty programming under the bonnet.

Here is a list of my core skills & services and the type of work I am most suited to:

  • Website & interface design
  • Front-end architecture – web-standards compliant XHTML and CSS
  • Backend programming in PHP and ASP
  • Small-large websites
  • Web-based applications/management systems
  • E-commerce/shopping websites
  • HTML emails and newsletters
  • WordPress setup and themes
  • Website hosting and domain name registration
  • Logo design
  • Small print work such as business cards, stationery and leaflets

Is there anything you cannot offer?

Yes, large projects requiring more than one developer and long projects (generally over 6 months) are probably better suited to a full development team however it’s very hard to generalise so do get in touch if you are interested in working with me.

In addition, large print-based jobs are not really my forte however I can point you in the direction of the wonderful designer at www.lauraingham.co.uk.

How much do you charge?

In such a diverse industry it’s near impossible to put accurate figures on types of work without first establishing individual requirements. As a very rough guide, a basic/static 4 page website could cost anything upwards from around £600. Whereas a small web-based application could be in the region of £3,000 and above.

But as I said, please don’t be limited by these figures – if you are interested in talking to me about your requirements and getting a quote please get in touch.

How long does it take?

There is obviously no one answer to this, however please try and ensure as much lead-time on a project as possible. I have worked in the industry long enough to know that rushing a project will inevitably compromise the final product.

How about outsourcing?

I am available for outsourcing or temporary contracts. If you are an agency looking for a dependable freelancer I can offer design, front-end XHTML/CSS and PHP/ASP programming (preferably PHP). Please get in touch to check my availability.
